Large Golden Wooden Fireplace Screen
Artist: Marque à Identifier
A large, beautiful 19th-century fireplace screen made of gilded wood, richly carved with foliage, shells, floral motifs, and acanthus leaves.
It bears a "JNT" mark that we have not been able to identify. The central panel is adorned with a fine Aubusson tapestry depicting a rocaille vase holding a bouquet of flowers, which has retained its subtle colors. This type of decoration reflects the renewed interest in the second half of the 19th century in the Rocaille and Rococo aesthetics of the 18th century.
Its silk or percale lining is worn and no longer allows the panel to be raised. Restoring the lining would make the object functional again.
However, we prefer to offer it for sale with its original lining.
The original gilding is in very good condition.
