Object description :

"Saint Scholastica And Saint Benedict - 18th Century "
Brother and sister, united in this fine representation in carved, polychromed and partially gilded wood.
A work from southern Germany from the early 18th century. Saint Scholastica of Nursia (480 - 542) and her twin brother Saint Benedict of Nursia (480 -587), their eyes turned towards the sky, are here of great gentleness. Dressed in the monastic habit, our Saint holds in her left hand a book on which a dove rests. Hand on his heart, Saint Benedict has placed his tiara at her feet.
Fine features, supple draperies and charming cherubs flanked on each side by the Cloud, testify to great craftsmanship. Dimensions of 43 cm by 16 cm wide and 13 deep
Good condition
Reference 754
