Small Return From Egypt Mahogany Desk, Empire Style – Mid-19th Century
This small Empire-style mahogany writing table is an exceptional piece combining refinement and craftsmanship. Its rectangular top is covered in deep green leather, delicately adorned with cold-stamped vignettes representing small flowers, adding a touch of delicacy to the charm of the whole. This desk opens onto a belt drawer, whose speckled mahogany front is enriched with a functional lock and key. The finely crafted chiseled bronze keyhole features two phytomorphic cherubs holding a lyre, a symbol of elegance and harmony. The belt of the piece is enhanced by ornate bronzes, representing torches accompanied by wreaths of flowers, as well as palmettes and volutes, evoking the noble aesthetic of the neoclassical style. The curved legs are enhanced with cascading acanthus leaves and decorated with bronze palmettes at the bottom, giving the whole a majestic appearance.****************Period: Mid-19th centuryExcellent condition after restoration in our workshop.
