This refined piece consists of a malachite egg mounted on a repoussé and chased silver base. The surface of the malachite, a highly prized hardstone admired in the imperial era for its deep green veining, is enriched with silver applications of floral garlands and festoons, crowned by a finely worked finial.
The structure rests on a square base with small feet, decorated with vegetal and foliate motifs in relief. When the egg is opened, a surprise is revealed: a bust of Napoleon Bonaparte in military uniform, crafted in gilt silver, serving as the handle of a small seal-holder. At the base of the bust is inserted a seal engraved with the famous imperial “N”, emblem of the Napoleonic dynasty.
The interior of the egg is gilded and carefully finished, evoking the sumptuous goldsmith works and commemorative objects created in honor of the Emperor and his legend. This piece stands as both a masterpiece of decorative art and a Napoleonic commemorative treasure of great charm and rarity.
