Canvas Painted After A 17th Century Antwerp Tapestry

- Painted canvas after an Antwerp pergola tapestry woven in the 17th century, 20th century painting.

- This painted canvas is the exact pictorial translation, on a smaller scale, of an Antwerp tapestry woven in the workshop of Jacques Wauters around 1650. The said weaving entitled "Pergola with vases of flowers" is currently kept in the Royal Collections of England at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh, Scotland*. This painting reproduces the ornamental design of the tapestry: a richly decorated entablature, a central gilt bronze vase with a bouquet of blooming flowers under a pergola also in bloom, a green background, a frame governed by twisted columns which gives the composition a baroque character characteristic of the Flemish tapestries of the period.
