[JANSENISM] - Jansenism Abattu, or Instruction on the Bull of Our Holy Father Pope Clement XI Condemning Heresy & the Book of Jansenius. Liège, Chez François Broncard, 1708; in-12, 10 ppnch. + 180 pp., contemporary full calf binding, spine decorated with 5 raised bands, marbled edges, missing the title piece. The Bull Unigenitus is the apostolic constitution in the form of a bull that Pope Clement XI published in September 1713 to attack Jansenism. It targets Pasquier Quesnel in particular and condemns as false and heretical one hundred and one propositions taken from the Moral Reflections (1692). Far from putting an end to the divisions in the Church, this bull provokes the coalition of several oppositions: Gallican, Richerist and Jansenist. Opposition to the bull arose during the Regency and called for a general council. From then on, Jansenism was built in opposition to the proclamations of the bull.
