In 1954 and 1956, he travelled to Paris on a study trip and returned to live there from 1960 to 1964. He has won numerous prizes and awards, and many of his works can be found in public art galleries. On 2 June 2006, Giovanni Bruzzi was named Cavaliere Ufficiale della Repubblica Italiana (Knight Officer of the Italian Republic) for his artistic merits.
