"Louis Charlot (1878-1951) Oil On Panel "the Stream" 1907"
Oil on panel, signed lower right and dated 1907. Dimensions of the panel 65x54cm and 85x74cm with its Montparnasse frame. The work is titled "le Ruisseau" on the back and bears the mention of exhibition at the Salon d'automne of 1908. A student of Leon Bonnat at the Beaux Arts in Paris, Louis Charlot became friends with Henri Deziré, JL Challié and Lucien Seevagen. He exhibited for the first time at the Salon of 1902, then multiplied the official Parisian Salons as well as exhibitions in Galleries and internationally. Influenced by Cézanne, at the beginning, his works gained in flamboyance thanks to the pure colors dear to the Fauves. In addition to rapid recognition from his peers before the war, he achieved recognition with a retrospective at the Galerie Georges PETIT in 1924. His works are preserved in numerous museums. Our painting is a view of his region (the Morvan, which is his favorite subject) typical of his work.
