Marmontel: The Incas Or The Destruction Of The Peruvian Empire
The novel The Incas or the Destruction of the Empire of Peru was published in 1777 and became a great publishing success. Its author, Marmontel (1723-1799), was a famous author throughout Europe, close to Voltaire. By turns a novelist, encyclopedist, librettist, grammarian, and politician, he was a worthy representative of the Age of Enlightenment. He was an academic and even permanent secretary. He participated in the Directory at the end of the Revolution. The edition offered here, in twelvevo, is from 1810, covered in a beautiful period binding, and accompanied by charming engravings. In good general condition, despite the paper's punctures, it even seems to have escaped a fire.
