Description:

This pair of candlesticks features baluster shafts and scrolling bases adorned with delicate shell motifs in finely chiseled bronze, showcasing both matte and burnished gilding of the period. They exhibit an elegant chiseled decor of profile figures. These candlesticks exemplify fine French craftsmanship from the Napoleonic III era, inspired by the French Regence style. Signed by Henri Picard and numbered under the base, they attest to the artisanal excellence of the time.

Artist Biography:

Henri Picard, a renowned bronzier and gilder, operated in Paris, first at 6 rue de Jarente, then at rue de la Perle, between 1831 and 1864. As an official supplier to Emperor Napoleon III, he created decorative objects for the imperial apartments at the Louvre. Picard was particularly noted for the quality of his table pieces and fireplace garnitures. A significant pair of twelve-light candelabra by Henri Picard is preserved at the Louvre Museum, testifying to his exceptional skill.
