FRACASTOR (Jérome) - Syphilis or the Venereal Disease, Latin poem. Paris, Chez Jacques-François Quillau, 1753; in-8, 204 pp., contemporary full speckled calf binding, spine decorated with 5 raised bands, edges painted in red, title piece in red morocco. Bilingual edition of this Latin poem first published in 1530. It was his poem that gave the name to the disease, but Jérôme Fracastor was interested in infectious diseases and the phenomena of contagion.
