"François-marius Granet - Original Signed Drawing - "oratory To The Virgin"."
François-Marius GRANET (1775.1849) Original signed drawing. Oratory to the Virgin. Ink, watercolor and wash on paper. Signed in the lower right margin. Approximately 12 x 17 cm, on an ogival-shaped paper. Extraordinary drawing by the Master of the Cloisters, depicting a figure (here glued to the work) at the foot of an oratory. The finesse of the line, the vanishing lines, and the play of light and shadow here again testify to what a great Master Granet was. Work presented in a magnificent 19th century wooden frame with Byzantine decorations. Member of the Academy of Fine Arts, François-Marius Granet was also Curator at the Louvre Museum and at the Palace of Versailles. A student of Jacques-Louis David, Granet did not hesitate to present himself as a "Christian" painter. The pictorial creation of cloisters remained his specialty and this attraction earned him the nickname "Monk". In Aix-en-Provence, the remarkable Museum of Fine Arts bears his name.
