Renaissance Bronze Oil Lamp After A Roman Nubian Head
Bronze oil lamp, probably Roman or attributed to the workshop of Severo Da Ravenna, Padua, 16th century.
Height: 15.5 cm.
This bronze lamp is mounted on an eagle's claw.
The lamp represents the head of a satyr with a beard and foliate eyebrows, whose mouth forms the burner; a hinged cover over the oil hole is on the crown. This lamp is of a well-known type, derived from the antique, but more carefully finished than usual.
Severo da Ravenna or Severo di Domenico Calzetta da Ravenna was an Italian sculptor, active around 1496, died around 1543.
