"Automaton Music Box By G. Bendon – Switzerland, Circa 1880"
A rare and magnificent automaton music box made in Switzerland around 1880 by the renowned maker G. Bendon. The mechanism plays eight charming tunes on a 28cm cylinder, as indicated on the original tune sheet signed by Bendon. The animation is particularly attractive: three Chinese figures striking six bells, combining visual and musical spectacle. The speed regulator is marked "AP & Co", the mark of the distributor. The wooden case is decorated with fine marquetry on the top, front and sides, and stands on small, elegant feet. A superb example of late 19th-century Swiss craftsmanship - both musically and visually a centerpiece for any collection of automata and mechanical music. Opportunities to acquire such a rare piece are extremely limited - a true collector's treasure.
