Object description :

"Candlestick Lamp, First Half Of The 19th Century"
Desk lamp, writing table lamp, from the first half of the 19th century. This is a candlestick lamp with its sheet metal shade, "little sister" of the larger bouillotte lamp. This lamp has a shade sliding on a square section stem equipped with a tightening wing nut to modify the intensity of the lighting as desired. At the bottom of the stem, a ring handle for carrying when the candle is lit (to avoid burning yourself); also a gripping ring at the top of the stem. Binet fixed by screwing on a strong hollowed plinth with its removable conical extinguisher. Circular terrace with a net of pearls around the perimeter, the same pearl decoration is found on the extinguisher and the edge of the handle, which attests to the complete homogeneity of the whole. Apart from the lampshade made of brick-colored lacquered sheet metal, the rest of the elements (mostly removable) were made of bronze and not brass like the more recent models.
The base of the socket has been drilled for a recent electrical installation, which is no longer in use. This lamp was undoubtedly born in the candle era, as its snuffer is proof. Quality assembly, good thickness of the bronze and patina of time. Tiny traces of use in the cup, some wear and loss of lacquer on the lampshade are very acceptable. This lamp was originally silver-plated, there are imperceptible traces, more evident under the base and behind the handle. Please note: a lovely model, very authentic and entirely original. Price not negotiable. Delivery: €15 for mainland France. Other destinations: contact me.
