"Pierre Fossey: Illustration Project For A Satirical Newspaper "
The satirical press between the two wars occupies an important place in the publications available in the newsstands of the time. Pierre Fossey (1901-1976), the author of this plate, worked for the newspaper "le rire" or even the funny newspaper. From the 1930s, he settled in Uruguay, in Montevideo where he would end his days. His style is incisive, here the social criticism is evident. Note the reduced palette, typical of the mass-circulation press. The drawing, done on poor quality paper, is still fresh, but the borders are a little damaged. It is protected in an old oak frame.
