"Valencia School (c. 1780) - Portrait Of Mossèn Ventura Assensi "
Oil on canvas.- Superb portrait, in the Spanish neoclassical tradition, representing a Valencian jurist and clergyman from the end of the 18th century. With his heraldry perfectly described and identified, the priest is depicted wearing the canon's robes of Valencia Cathedral, displaying his love of knowledge, embodied in a magnificent library of legal and theological subjects. His expression, both serene and severe, reveals a complex personality, not devoid of the vanity characteristic of scholars, and a contained grimace testifies to the subject's frenetic cerebral activity. The paintings of famous clergymen of the period, made in the Valencian workshop of Mariano Salvador Maella, are closely related to this style of portraiture, using Baroque ornamentation but a purely realistic approach.- Dimensions of the image without frame: 70 x 92 cm / 81 x 104 cm with a magnificent early 19th-century frame. Galerie Montbaron includes a technical sheet prepared by an accredited art historian with all its lots. This sheet is sent digitally upon request.
