Exceptional set of six round vermeil plates (19th century English solid silver), with refined decoration. The borders are decorated with inverted oblique gadroons framing richly chiseled shells, themselves surrounded by acanthus leaves. The rim of each plate is engraved with a coat of arms surmounted by a marquis' crown, testifying to a noble provenance. Silversmith: William Ker Reid, London, 1842-1843 (Victorian hallmarks).
