"Mithé Espelt Ceramic Thermometer "
Mithé Espelt (1923-2020), whose real name was Marie-Thérèse Espelt, was a French ceramist. At the age of 16, she moved to Montpellier and studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts alongside Pierre Soulages, and later began to learn ceramics. At the end of the war, she opened her own workshop in Lunel, her birthplace, and created mirrors, boxes, and other jewelry. She did not sign any of her works, but her work is recognizable by the felt under her pieces. This thermometer depicts a large blue bird on a branch in cracked gold enamel in a naive decor of green foliage and white flowers. Note a slight chip on the right side.
