"Miniature – Shepherd’s Cup – Knife-carved Wood – Folk Art – Auvergne – Cantal"
Dating: Late 19th century Origin: France – Auvergne, Cantal Small shepherd's cup, carved in wood, for personal use. This type of object, very small in size, often accompanied shepherds or peasants on their daily journeys, serving to drink a shot of brandy or wine during stops. The body is decorated with naive incisions: a sawtooth decoration runs along the lip, and on the front we can see the inscription "HENRI JVV", probably the first name and abbreviated surname of its owner. The whole exudes a touching force through its simplicity and its deeply intimate character: a pocket-sized object, utilitarian, but also marked by the affection of the person who shaped or commissioned it. The wood still bears a beautiful honey-colored patina, with traces of old use. The raw and spontaneous workmanship, typical of popular Auvergne productions, brings this miniature cup closer to the world of "companionship objects" or pastoral souvenirs. Condition: wear from use, slight irregularities related to manual tools, but good stability. Dimensions: Height 6 cm Delivery: ALL DELIVERIES ARE MADE BY DHL EXPRESS ONLY.
