France – July Monarchy – Circa 1835–1845 Royalist officer's sword with chiseled brass hilt – Royal Manufacture of Klingenthal Elegant officer's sword of the July Monarchy, recognizable by its finely chiseled brass hilt and its emblematic decoration. The pommel features a stylized lion's head, a heroic motif recurrent in military iconography. It surmounts a massive fuse decorated with a central medallion of the arms of King Louis-Philippe, framed by laurel branches. This arrangement clearly indicates royalist use under the reign of the "King of the French", in a style synthesizing the monarchical and imperial legacies. The spectacular guard is adorned with trophies of arms, allegorical figures and engraved military attributes, emphasizing the rank and affiliation of an officer of the regular troops or an elite corps. The blade, with a flat section, is engraved on both sides with floral motifs, crossed arms, and the clearly legible inscription: "Manufacture Royale de Klingenthal", attesting to official production under state authority. The brass side plates of the fuse are not the original ones, but were replaced at the time, probably on personal order. The engraved decoration - including a crowned male bust, a coat of arms and military attributes - remains perfectly consistent with the whole, although not strictly regulatory. Personalization as part of an honorary or ceremonial order remains possible.
