Oil Painting Animated Landscape Shepherd Sunset Signed Paul Chaigneau (1879-1938)

Antique painting, oil on mahogany wood signed lower left by the painter Paul CHAIGNEAU (1879-1938) dated 1928. The scene represents a shepherd accompanying his sheep in a landscape at sunset located on the plain of Chailly en Bière or Barbizon. Very good condition, well framed, see photos. Painting visible at the gallery in Toulouse. Son of Ferdinand Chaigneau (1830-1906), painter of Bordeaux origin, he was born in Barbizon (which was at the time only a hamlet of the commune of Chailly-en-Bière) in the paternal house called La Bergerie. He was trained by his father and painted, in the same register, pastoral scenes, sunsets and shepherds watching sheep. In 1927, the municipality of Barbizon appointed him curator of the museum of the studio of Théodore Rousseau, along with Marcel Jacque, the son of the painter Charles Jacque.
