Biography:
Adolphe-Félix Cals, born October 17, 1810 in Paris and died October 3, 1880 in Honfleur, is a French painter and engraver. His life is described in detail in the 1900 work by Arsène Alexandre entitled A.-F. Cals or the joy of painting.
He exhibited regularly at the Salon between 1835 and 1848. He participated in the Impressionist exhibitions, from the first in 1874, then in 1976, 1877, 1879, 1881.
Before anyone else, Cals painted the humble and immediate equality of all things. On the motif, he captured nature at work. He is considered the precursor of Impressionism.
