André Davids "woman At Her Toilet" Early 20th Century - Post-impressionism
A great seduction emanates from this painting showing a woman at her toilet, a chair, a basin on the parquet floor and a screen for only decoration. A beautifully fluid brushstroke and a palette of muted colors punctuated by a green and ochre stain, the painter used the young woman's body as unique source of light.
An intimate subject composed at the beginning of the 20th century by the painter André Davids who expresses it with a certain realism, bringing a gentle poetry to his work.
Andre Davids was born in Brussels towards the end of the 19th century to British parents.
His work straddles the two centuries.
He was active in France and naturalized.
He exhibited in Paris at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts.
Two of his works are kept at the Musée d'Orsay: "Portrait of Madame Hadamard" and "Portrait of Madame Davids reading".
Oil on canvas signed "A Davids" lower left. Some small retouches and one rework. (see photo) but very good general condition.
Size: 21,7 x 18,1 Inches without frame and 27,4 x 23,8 Inches with its gilded wooden frame.
