"Bronze Buddha, 81cm, Thailand, Circa 19th Century"
Large bronze Buddha with green patina in Ayutthaya style, seated in padmasana, his hands resting naturally on top of each other in dhyana-mudra. His expression is serene, his half-closed eyes finely chiseled, a slight smile in deep contemplation. The support is richly decorated in a profusion of stylized foliage in which elephants move. These are represented with raised trunks symbolizing luck and prosperity, also associated with wisdom, strength and protection. Thailand, probably 19th or earlier, height 81cm.
