""the Scenic Place Of Murmuring Pines" Print By Utagawa Hiroshige, Japan 1855"
Japanese print by the famous Utagawa Hiroshige, Meiji period, on chirimen-e (crepe paper) from 1855. These Chirimen-e type prints are published on Japanese crepe paper very close to fabric and required a different production technique from classic prints. They would have appeared as early as the 1800s in Japan. They remained in their representations identical to the original subjects of the artists although published in smaller formats. Many classics of Hiroshige for example were made in Chirimen-e. This is print No. 30, Hamamatsu: "The Picturesque Place of Whispering Pines" (Hamamatsu, meisho zazanza no matsu), from the series Famous Places of the Fifty-three Stations or the Vertical Tokkaido. Edition of 1855. Two small tears in the paper. Under original glass
