Small bronze statuette with brown patina representing the crowned Virgin crushing the serpent, symbol of original sin. She holds a book in one hand and a lily stem in the other, symbol of purity. Black painted wooden base (visible chips). Numbered 66 on the back of the base. French work from the 19th century. Total height: 19 cm Unsigned. This iconography of the Virgin crushing the serpent illustrates the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, very widespread in 19th century religious art.
