"Pair Of Fly-snipping Scissors And Matching Tray – London, 18th Century "
Pair of Blowing Scissors and Matching Tray – London, 18th Century A rare 18th-century English set of a pair of blowing scissors and its matching tray. The two pieces, although aesthetically perfectly matched, come from two different silversmiths. The scissors, with their sober and elegant decoration, bear the hallmarks of master silversmith William Caffe and date from 1763. Their spring mechanism works perfectly, ensuring smooth opening and closing, a sign of careful maintenance and quality craftsmanship. The tray, specially designed to hold the blowing scissors, is a work from 1771 signed by the London silversmith John Carter II. Its elongated shape, finely curved and with rounded ends, perfectly matches the silhouette of the scissors. The hallmarks, clearly legible on both pieces, attest to their London origin and their silver fineness in accordance with 18th-century British standards. The set is distinguished by its visual coherence, its excellent state of preservation and its substantial weight, a guarantee of solidity.
