Aeneas carrying his father fleeing Troy. Carved and blackened wood. Height 33 cm Base 15.5 cm X 15 cm In Greco-Roman mythology, Aeneas was a Trojan prince and the legendary founder of the Romans. He was the son of Anchises, a member of the Trojan royal family, and the goddess Aphrodite/Venus. Aeneas was one of the few Trojan heroes to escape the siege of Troy. He then embarked on a seven-year journey, the most famous account of which is the Aeneid by the Roman poet Virgil (70-19 BC).
