"Wooden Bas-relief / Auvergne / Folk Art / Circa 1920-1930"
In the 1900s and 1940s, in Auvergne as in other mountain regions, it was common to produce wooden bas-reliefs depicting scenes of peasant or artisanal life. These pieces, made by local sculptors such as A. Moran, were intended either for the regional market or for visitors to spa resorts and tourist villages. They served both as authentic souvenirs and as rustic decorations for city interiors seeking a regional character. dimensions

The carved scene shows a peasant sitting in front of the cantou, a large traditional Auvergne fireplace, inside which hang kitchen utensils and accessories. To the side, we notice a cat perched on a shelf, hanging clothes (boots, coat) and various domestic details (wall clock, beams, exposed stone). This type of composition, rich in realistic elements, aimed to evoke the warmth of the rural home and the simplicity of daily life, while promoting attachment to traditions.
