A Canton Enamel Cover Pot, China 19th
A covered copper jar finely decorated with polychrome painted enamel, Canton (Guangzhou), second half of the 19th century.
An elegant piece of Chinese decorative art, featuring a meticulous design alternating graceful white cartouches with ornithological scenes—two birds perched among flowering branches—and a rich deep-blue ground densely adorned with peonies, chrysanthemums, and foliage.
The domed cover, decorated with a continuous floral pattern and centred with a blossoming flower medallion, retains its original copper/brass mounting.
The colours, remarkably fresh, and the finesse of the brushwork reflect the high quality typical of the finest Canton enamels of the period.
Condition: Excellent, with no chips or visible restorations; light patina to the metal consistent with age.
