Small lobed porcelain dish with blue and white decoration depicting a galloping horse among waves, also adorned with prunus blossoms. The wave motif is repeated on the reverse.
On the reverse, a Chenghua mark within a double circle.

The examples of these dishes referenced in “Leaping the Dragon Gate” are dated to the Chongzhen period. However, other known models are dated to the Shunzhi and Kangxi periods. While we believe our example dates to the Transitional period, it cannot be excluded that it may date to the early beginning of the Kangxi period.
Fritting and small chips around the edge, three hairlines, one is translucent. Some firing defect.
