27.8 Cm Italian Catholic Church Chalice With Paten In 900/100 Sterling Silver Vermeil
A large Italian Catholic church cup, a chalice with paten. 27.8 cm high, it is made up of four pieces: the paten, the cup, the center, and the base. The chalice is double-hallmarked, with both Italian and French silver hallmarks. The cup is silver-gilt inside and bears six hallmarks. The base bears five silver hallmarks, the centerpiece only one. The paten bears four silver hallmarks.
This chalice appears to have traveled a long way. Made in Italy before 1850, it was later remarked by the French. The original paten appears replaced, but is still beautiful, with the crossed IHS and the (flaming) heart. The chalice itself appears very pure, with three different images at the base: the cross, the flaming heart, and the Ten Commandments. It is immersed between leaves and vines.
