French Cuirassier's Breastplate Model 1855/91, Second Empire / Third Republic/ Ww1
French cuirassier breastplate model 1855 modified in 1891, in steel and brass.
This model of breastplate was worn under the Second Empire and until the beginning of the First World War.
Piece in good general condition.
The breastplate and backplate are both marked with the Châtellerault weapon factory.
Different serial numbers but homogeneous set.
For the breastplate: Manufacture de Châtellerault, dated July 1875, 4th size and unique width.
For the backplate: Manufacture de Châtellerault, dated 1885, 3rd Size. Two arsenal repairs on the backplate (see photos).
Shoulder pads with brass locks and chains mounted on leather.
Regulatory modification in 1891 which notably consisted of bringing the shoulder pads closer to the center of the breastplate.
All the leathers are period. Accident to the leathers of the shoulder pads (see photos). Small slits in the left lock (see photo).
Original leather belt.
