Pair of Large Cut-Crystal and Gilt-Bronze Vases, Attributed to Saint-Louis – 19th Century

An elegant pair of large baluster-shaped vases in clear cut crystal, enriched with remarkable finely chased and gilt-bronze mounts.

Their tall, slender silhouettes feature tapering bodies raised on circular pedestal feet, pronounced shoulders and long flared necks. The crystal is decorated with a sophisticated combination of vertical fluting, broad facets, circular cuts and crosshatched diamond-pattern bands.

The underside of each vase displays a prominent sixteen-point radiating star cut. This technical feature, together with the clarity, weight and precision of the cutting, supports an attribution to the Saint-Louis crystal manufactory.

The shoulders are encircled by rich gilt-bronze mounts composed of palmette borders and generous swags of roses, flowers and laurel leaves suspended from ribbon bows. Delicate foliate garlands further enhance the bases of the necks.

The rims and circular feet are framed by finely chased gilt-bronze mounts decorated with gadroons, water leaves and classical ornamental borders.

The precision of the crystal cutting, refined proportions and richly detailed gilt-bronze mounts reflect fine French craftsmanship in the Louis XVI style.
