Two Large Pistols For The 19th Century Oriental Market
Here are two large hammer pistols, of similar models, but one larger than the other (52 and 57 cm long), made for the oriental market. The walnut wood parts are inlaid with rich silver filigree decorations and enhanced with mother-of-pearl. The decorative elements are in brass, coat of arms, faun heads, and head cases. The large diameter barrels seem to be made to make noise, rather than to precisely hit a specific target; their weight prevents precision. Probably perfect for fantasias or parades, it is indeed necessary to make as much noise as possible. Slight lack of filigree, worn patina of the wood, otherwise good condition.
