Each piece presents, on the main face, a lively scene of a lake landscape in an oval reserve. The reverse is left in plain turquoise. These planters, typical of the romantic taste of the first half of the 19th century, combine utility and ornament: bourgeois interior objects, they decorated fireplaces, shelves or consoles while holding plants or dried bouquets.
The technique of faux marble on the base is very often used for this type of object and responds to the delicacy of the hand-painted scenes.
French or Italian work, circa 1830–1850.
Painted sheet metal and brass hooping to prevent deformation.
Condition: wear from use, no traces of rust. The planters are usable.
