It was founded in Rome in 1794 within the Ricci watchmaking factory. - In 1820, it opened its first historic office in Piazza Colonna. Ernst Hausmann, a German watchmaker, joined the company in 1870, then bought the Ricci company in 1881. The company temporarily moved to via Bocca di Leone, before settling permanently in via del Corso in 1890, where it is still located today. - The company took the name Hausmann & Co in 1895, when a talented engineer, also German, Hermann Frielingsdorf, joined Hausmann.
