"Marquetry Box Signed Tahan Paris."
Rosewood marquetry glove box. Cube marquetry lid decorated in its center with a flower painting, surrounded by openwork brass. Marquetry sides laid in a chevron pattern. Front flap revealing an interior in rosewood and brass threads. Lock signed TAHAN in Paris. Said to be the Prince of small cabinetmaking, Tahan marked his time with the quality of execution of his creations. Supplier to Emperor Napoleon III, he obtained numerous medals at the various Universal Exhibitions. Located on Rue de la Paix then Boulevards des Italiens, the company closed its doors for good in 1882. Very well preserved. A very small loss, see photo.
