Object description :

"Félix Ziem (1821-1911) Young Oriental"
Orientalist, mysterious and exotic subjects in warm colors have always attracted painters, but it was especially in the 19th century that the attraction to oriental themes reached its peak.
It was Felix Ziem, the great traveling painter associated with orientalism and considered one of the precursors of impressionism, who painted this young oriental woman sitting on the floor in an interior with yellow fabric, leaning on a colorful cushion.
The work, done in oil on wood panel, is offered in a Louis XIV style frame measuring 47 cm by 55 cm and 24 cm by 32 cm for the panel alone.
In good condition, it is unsigned but bears the inventory number of the artist's studio "992" at the top left and is listed in the Catalogue Raisonné of Madame Hellebrandt, an expert on the artist.

Painter of the School of Barbizon renowned for his seascapes and landscapes of Venice and Constantinople, attached to the Orientalist movement, he is considered one of the precursors of Impressionism.
The first painter to enter the Louvre Museum during his lifetime (in 1910), Van Gogh admired his painting and we can read in one of his letters to his brother Theo, when he arrived in Arles: "I would like to be able to make the blues that says Ziem, who do not age like the others ... "
