E. Lefebvre: Dressmaker's Half-meter & Its Solid Silver Case From The Art Nouveau Period. C1900

Charming silver case containing a folding half-meter.

The meter is composed of ten segments graduated in five centimeters.

One of the metal ends is hallmarked with a handshake and the number 1. This is most likely a mark attesting to the instrument's correct graduation.

The case is decorated with a superb Virginia creeper leaf motif in slight relief.

The interior is lined with red velvet.

The case is hallmarked:
. Boar's head for solid silver.
. Silversmith's mark: EL with a sad swan for Eugène Lefevre, active from 1874 to 1907.

A superb little object, charming and very delicate, with Art Nouveau decoration typical of its period of manufacture.
