"Medieval Bronze Seal – Southwest France – Circa 1400"
Rare medieval seal – P. de Rocafort, priest (late 14th – early 15th century) Elegant circular seal matrix in copper alloy, fitted with its bail. The field features a hollowed shield bearing three rocs arranged in one and two, an emblem speaking of the name of Rocafort. Above, a direction sign with two chevrons. Legend engraved in Gothic capitals between two lines: “+ S': P. D' ROCA . FORT: PBRI” (Seal of P. de Rocafort, priest). Originating from the Southwest of France, this seal testifies to the identity of a man of the Church at the end of the Middle Ages. Dimensions: diameter 2.2 cm – height 2.1 cm – weight 11.3 g. Good general condition, traces of corrosion and small dents from use. Perhaps Roquefort des Corbières in the Aude. Rare and evocative object, ideal for collectors of sigillography or authentic medieval objects.
