"Wooden Sculpture Of Oriental Deity Early 1900s"
Wooden Sculpture Of Oriental Deity Early 1900s made from a hard and heavy wood with vertical faults. The sculpture in question has oriental influences in the carved decorations of the belt and base as well as in the almond-shaped cut of the eyes; at the same time, the physiognomy of the face and the macrocephalic skull suggest the African area. In essence, we cannot correctly identify the provenance and identity of the sculpture, which, however, exudes a strong spirituality from its sketched smile. From the fire marks on its left side we assume that the statue was worshipped in a private altar along with candles and tealights. It comes from the collection of a Milanese traveler and has been cleaned and waxed.
