Earthenware Pitcher From Eastern France - Early 19th Century
Polychrome earthenware pitcher from St Clément - Early 19th centuryPost-revolutionary period (1789-1800). Pitcher depicting a revolutionary soldier dressed as such wearing a cockade on his hat. He holds a glass in one hand, a bottle in the other and is sitting on a barrel. His trousers are multi-colored. Piece signed by St Clément, which makes it of interest to collectors of earthenware from eastern France. The whole has been repaired: the face of the soldier and the front part of the hat are glued back on, the interior glaze redone, a chip on the base, the interior part not visible when the piece is placed, otherwise the rest of the piece is intact.
