Necklace called slavery, French work from the beginning of the 19th century. Necklace with Plates or Slavery centered on a plate with floral decoration, chiseling work, on the sides two smaller plates also with floral decoration. The three plates are connected by three different chain links and symbolize the past, the present, and the future. The necklace closes with a large rectangular clasp with blue enamel decoration (missing), worked on both sides, one representing birds and on the other side two bird heads stylizing a heart in a floral decoration. The setting is in 18 carat yellow gold (750 thousandths), slight oxidation on the necklace, we chose to leave it like this. Gross weight: 19.2 g Length: 41 cm Concerning the hallmarks there is a ram's head on one of the end rings near the clasp, and two crested rooster head hallmarks on the two largest rings. This type of necklace is called a "slave" necklace and appeared in the mid-18th century. It was given by the fiancé to his fiancée. This term "slave" has no connection with the notion of submission and deprivation of freedom but should be considered as proof of the sentimental attachment or bond that unites the two brides and grooms. This jewelry later spread to the rural world, but with less prestigious materials, and became fashionable in Normandy and Auvergne.
