Large Table Stamped Driessin From The Louis XVI Period

Opening with two Italian-style side panels, it demonstrates masterful craftsmanship. The understated and refined top rests on four stepped sheathed legs accented with light fluting and ending in bronze sabots. The apron is also stepped, with a geometric architectural shape. This table is stamped G. DRIESSIN and also bears the hallmark of the Jurande des Menuisiers-Ébénistes JME (Joiners-Cabinetmakers' Guild). Godefroy Driessin, who became a master in 1776, was one of the renowned cabinetmakers of the late reign of Louis XVI. His rare work is distinguished by its rigorous execution and a sure taste for architectural forms, faithful to the neoclassical aesthetic of the period.
