Gashghai Kashkuli Iran Rug 70 X 70 Cm

Iranian rug from the Fars region (southwest Iran), wool, cotton warp and weft, circa 1960. Very good condition.

A central beige and blue medallion rich in patterns (bouquets of flowers, cypresses) stands out against a deep red background. On either side, two polychrome columns, surmounted by horse heads, refer to the ancient sculptures and bas-reliefs of Persepolis. A 'herati' (flower) border frames the field of the rug.

The Gashghai confederation includes different tribes. Some examples: the Kashkulis Bozorgs (the large ones), the Kashkulis Kucheks (the small ones), the Shishbolukis (six districts), the Amalehs or Yalamehs (workers, servants of the Khan).
