Auguste Louis Mathurin MOREAU, known as Auguste Moreau, is a famous French academic sculptor. Born on February 22, 1834 in Dijon, Auguste Moreau is the son of the painter and statuary Jean-Baptiste-Louis-Joseph Moreau and the younger brother of the sculptors Hippolyte Moreau and Mathurin Moreau. Auguste Moreau began sculpture with his older brother Mathurin Moreau. In 1861, he made his debut at the Salon, where he exhibited regularly until 1913. He is related to the "Moreau" dynasty with his genre subjects and scenes, pastorals, allegories, and his realistic and graceful style. Auguste Moreau produced mainly bronze art. Auguste Moreau died on November 11, 1917, in Malesherbes. Several of his works are preserved at the Museum of Fine Arts in Troye and the Museum of Fine Arts in Bordeaux.
