"Small Louis XVI Period Mirror With Country Decor In Carved And Gilded Wood. "
Charming little Louis XVI style mirror, in carved and gilded wood, retaining its original gilding with some small losses and cracks, visible but in keeping with its authenticity. The original mercury glass is set in a rectangular molded frame, decorated with an elegant row of pearls all around the edge. At the base, two small carved consoles emphasize the structure, and the whole rests on two feet decorated with pine cones. The mirror is crowned with a carved openwork pediment, with a naive decoration of leafy scrolls, a bundle of knotted wheat ears, topped with a straw hat and a laurel wreath. Two long laurel branches fall elegantly on either side of the pediment. This decor clearly evokes rural attributes, linked to the harvest, abundance and the allegory of summer, in the neoclassical and pastoral spirit very fashionable at the end of the 18th century. The frame is made of linden, and the flooring of the mirror is made of fir, visible on the reverse. Dimensions: Total height: 57 cm Width: 31 cm A small, refined and decorative mirror, typical of the French neoclassical aesthetic. To be installed on a console, in a bedroom or in a charming 18th century interior. Beautiful authenticity to preserve or restore according to taste.
