The spoon's spatula is teardrop-shaped, without the classic shoulder found on the vast majority of flatware from this period, and is highlighted with a double line. It is engraved with the number DF (?) within a Swiss shield framed by two palm leaves and surmounted by a wreath of flowers. This later engraving dates from the 19th century and was probably made as a wedding gift.
The spoon is richly and finely pierced with concentric geometric motifs forming arabesques and plant friezes.
This type of pierced work, organized in concentric registers, is less common than the more classic motif of wide scrolls.
The spoon is hallmarked:
. Traces of the charge, jurande, and silversmith's mark are illegible.
. Discharge mark: a fox's head, struck in Paris between 1738 and 1744.
Superb shaker, rare teardrop model with an original pierced hole and an early date of manufacture, dating from the reign of the good King Louis XV.
